Purpose

The Senior Case Manager plays a critical role in supporting refugees to achieve self-sufficiency and independence in the United States. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of refugees and to contribute to the mission of Church World Service.

Responsibilities
  • Welcome and orient refugees to the community through the provision of core resettlement services.
  • Secure appropriate and affordable housing for new refugees and develop relationships with local landlords.
  • Empower refugees to formulate realistic employability plans and assist them in implementing these plans.
  • Advocate on behalf of refugees and refugee-serving voluntary agencies.
  • Offer interpretation and translation services to refugee clients, as well as transportation to interviews and appointments as necessary.
  • Work with clients to remove barriers to employment and realize the goal of family self-sufficiency.
  • Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs.
  • Counsel clients in areas such as job interview skills, expected behavior on the job, and proper hygiene.
  • Stay up to date on program changes and coordinate regular trainings for case management staff on program changes and compliance.
  • Oversee AmeriCorps ACCESS members serving at Church World Service Durham.
  • Communicate with volunteer coordinators to organize volunteer assistance to welcome refugees.
  • Attend trainings and conferences as requested by supervisor.
  • Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues and available services to refugees.
  • Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Education: B.A. or equivalent experience in refugee resettlement or related field.
  • Experience: Required 4 years of Previous work experience in refugee resettlement or other direct social services is desired.
  • Other Skills: Fluency in a refugee language is strongly desired. Superior written and verbal communication skills are required.
