Composite/Plastic Fabricator Leader

This position serves as a Composite/Plastic Fabricator Leader (Expert) in the Production Resources Department at PSNS and IMF. The incumbent will lead a group of Helpers, Workers, and Journeymen to ensure work assignments are carried out and that the team has a proper understanding of tools, materials, equipment, and processes appropriate for their skill level.
Key Responsibilities- Lead a team of composite fabricators to ensure work assignments are carried out.
- Ensure team members have a proper understanding of tools, materials, equipment, and processes.
- Perform the construction of molds, templates, mockups, temporary structures, glass reinforced plastics (GRP) components, and containments using various tooling and machinery.
- Use Polycarbonate, wood, Acrylic, GRP, Formica, Benelex, Polyethylene, and various composite materials to add contour, fabricate, and repair ship components and temporary structures.
- Identify deficiencies and upstream problems and implement corrective actions or mitigate the risk of such issues utilizing years of trade knowledge and experience.
- Determine the best methods and procedures for accomplishing the current work assignment within the guidance of any and all related technical work documents.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
- Must be able to lift and/or carry loads or items up to 60 pounds in weight.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
