Position Overview

As a Lead Composite/Plastic Fabrication Specialist within the U.S. Pacific Fleet, you will play a pivotal role in the Production Resources Department. This position requires an expert in composite and plastic fabrication, responsible for guiding a team to ensure the effective execution of work assignments.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Career transition candidates, including federal employees classified as "surplus" or "displaced."

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of fabricators, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently while providing guidance on tools, materials, and processes suitable for their skill levels.
  • Construct molds, templates, mockups, and temporary structures using various materials, including glass reinforced plastics (GRP).
  • Utilize materials such as Polycarbonate, wood, Acrylic, GRP, Formica, Benelex, and Polyethylene to fabricate and repair components.
  • Identify and address deficiencies and potential issues, implementing corrective measures based on extensive trade knowledge.
  • Determine optimal methods and procedures for current assignments, adhering to relevant technical documentation.
Employment Conditions
  • Vision must be correctable to normal range in both eyes, with the ability to distinguish basic colors.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and suitable for federal employment.
  • Participation in the direct deposit pay program is required.
  • Successful completion of a pre-appointment physical examination and ongoing physical assessments is mandatory.
  • Must obtain and maintain a security clearance prior to starting the role.
  • Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times during work hours.
  • Work may involve exposure to potentially hazardous physical and chemical agents.
  • Travel may be required, including to remote locations.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds is necessary.
  • Work hours may include nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

While specific experience duration is not mandated, candidates must demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to perform the job effectively. Your qualifications will be assessed based on your experience and training relevant to the position.
