  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering with over 5 years of experience in petroleum refining, focusing on process technical services or design engineering.
  • Strong foundation in chemical engineering principles including heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid dynamics, and economic fundamentals.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as spreadsheets (Excel), DCS control data historians, and process simulation software, with an ability to adapt to new systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and physical fitness for accessing equipment such as towers and vessels.
  • Willingness to work night shifts during maintenance turnarounds or other situations requiring continuous technical support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with various refinery teams and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
  • Daily Monitoring: Ensure adherence to environmental regulations, maintain reliable operations, and identify potential issues affecting capacity. Collaborate with the environmental department on emissions calculations.
  • Troubleshooting: Conduct pressure and temperature surveys, diagnose and rectify operational issues, and assess the need for exchanger cleaning while evaluating the economic implications of shutdowns.
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform essential calculations including sizing orifice plates, control valves, and relief valves, as well as conducting heat and material balances.
  • Mass/Volume Balance: Update and maintain material balance spreadsheets, calibrate meters, and recommend corrective actions for discrepancies.
  • Operational Recommendations: Advise on safe work practices, environmental compliance, and strategies for enhancing operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Support Maintenance Activities: Oversee catalyst handling, chemical cleaning, and vessel inspections, while contributing to the development of operational procedures.
  • Additional Duties: Evaluate economic factors for unit operations, lead process hazard analyses, and assist with capital project design and implementation.
  • Catalyst Performance Monitoring: Assess catalyst efficiency and project future catalyst life, while initiating procurement processes for new systems.
  • Material Balances: Maintain accurate working material balances for assigned operational units.
  • Safety and Quality Assurance: Ensure that refinery safety and quality standards are integrated into daily operations.
Work Environment
  • Provide technical support for designated units, often in challenging conditions involving high temperatures and hazardous materials.
  • Respond to operational disruptions and offer expert recommendations during off-hours and holidays.
