Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Technical Assistant II to join our Clinical Laboratory team at Novant Health. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting. Your expertise in phlebotomy and specimen processing will enable you to validate and process specimens delivered to the laboratory, ensuring timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing.

Responsibilities
  • Pre-analytical processing of laboratory specimens, including order processing, specimen verification, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
  • Validation and processing of specimens delivered to the laboratory, ensuring timely and appropriate specimen preparation for testing.
  • Performing phlebotomy as required.
  • Making decisions and solving problems, recognizing when to involve leadership support.
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
  • Advising and assisting in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software, as necessary.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED, required.
  • One year of relevant phlebotomy and/or specimen processing/laboratory experience, preferred.
  • Phlebotomy Certification – ASCP, NHA, ASPT, AMT or a national accrediting agency approved by Laboratory Senior Leadership, required.
  • MLA certification from ASCP, CMLA certification from AMT, preferred.
Additional Skills
  • Knowledge of current medical terminology to perform full range of laboratory tasks.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with medical staff regarding laboratory procedures and results.
  • Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, hospital staff, and the public.
  • Ability to follow written protocols.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
