Position Overview:

The Infection Control Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Infection Prevention Nurse in monitoring, reporting, and addressing infection-related issues within the healthcare setting. This position is vital for ensuring compliance with infection prevention protocols and minimizing healthcare-associated infections across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Infection Prevention Nurse with daily operations to uphold the infection prevention program.
  • Conduct thorough surveillance related to infection control, analyzing data to identify trends, outbreaks, and opportunities for process enhancements as outlined by the Infection Prevention Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Infection Prevention Nurse and Clinical Continuous Improvement Specialists (CCIS) to investigate, resolve, and implement measures for the improvement and reporting of hospital-acquired infections.
  • Ensure timely submission of infection prevention and safety data to the National Safety Healthcare Network (NSHN) as mandated by regulatory authorities and aligned with the goals of the Infection Prevention Program.
  • Provide infection prevention and patient safety data to the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) in accordance with the organization's quality and strategic objectives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of infection prevention policies and practices, ensuring daily compliance.
  • Participate actively in the Infection Prevention Committee.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating hospital and departmental infection prevention policies based on evidence-based guidelines, relevant laws, and accreditation standards, while collaborating with various committees and leaders to implement necessary changes.

Work Schedule:

Full-time, 40 hours per week, Day Shift

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa.
  • A minimum of five years of professional nursing experience is required.
  • At least two years of progressive clinical and leadership experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and patient care protocols is preferred.
  • Exhibit strong initiative, judgment, and investigative skills with attention to detail in both written and verbal communication.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
  • Flexibility and availability for off-hour responsibilities are essential.
  • Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and lead teams effectively.
