Role Objective:
The Infection Prevention Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Infection Prevention Nurse by engaging in infection-related surveillance, reporting, identification, and problem-solving to minimize healthcare-associated infections while ensuring compliance with infection prevention protocols across the organization. This position also oversees the submission and maintenance of data for the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Infection Prevention Nurse with daily operations to enhance the infection prevention program.
- Conduct infection surveillance and critically analyze data to detect trends, outbreaks, and opportunities for process enhancements as determined by the Infection Prevention Committee following the annual Infection Prevention Risk Assessment.
- Collaborate with the Infection Prevention Nurse and Clinical Continuous Improvement Specialists (CCIS) to investigate, resolve, and implement measures for the improvement and reporting of hospital-acquired infections.
- Submit infection prevention and patient safety data to the National Safety Healthcare Network (NSHN) as mandated by regulatory agencies and aligned with the goals of the Infection Prevention Program.
- Provide infection prevention and patient safety data to NDNQI in accordance with the organization's quality and strategic objectives.
- Maintain current knowledge of Infection Prevention policies and procedures, ensuring day-to-day compliance.
- Participate actively in the Infection Prevention Committee.
- Assist in reviewing and updating hospital and department-specific Infection Prevention policies, utilizing evidence-based guidelines and collaborating with various committees and leaders to implement necessary changes.
Full Time, 40 hours per week, Day Shift
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in nursing is required.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Iowa.
- A minimum of five years of professional nursing experience is required.
- At least two years of progressive clinical and leadership experience demonstrating success in nursing or expanded clinical roles is preferred.
- Familiarity with health center responsibilities, regulatory standards, and patient care standards is preferred.
- Exhibit a high degree of initiative, judgment, and investigative skills with attention to detail in both written and verbal communication.
- Possess excellent communication skills to interact effectively with diverse healthcare professionals, including public speaking and presentation abilities.
- Be flexible and available for off-hour responsibilities.
- Demonstrate project management skills with the capacity to prioritize tasks, manage teams, and facilitate group activities.
