Job Opportunity

PepGen is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Principal Scientist to join our Preclinical Research and Development team in Boston, Massachusetts. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading the development, optimization, and execution of in vitro and in vivo nonclinical pharmacology studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and validate in vitro and in vivo pharmacology models and assays
  • Identify and collaborate with external contract research organizations (CROs) and academic partners for in vitro and in vivo pharmacology studies
  • Lead the development and execution of in vitro and in vivo nonclinical pharmacology studies, implementing rigorous data analysis techniques to elucidate pharmacodynamic effects
  • Manage nonclinical development studies for PepGen's Enhanced Delivery Oligonucleotide (EDO) programs, supporting pre-candidate and early and late development programs
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Research Project Team leaders, CMC, Toxicology, Bioanalytical, and Biomarkers functions, to design and interpret nonclinical pharmacology and efficacy studies
  • Manage associate scientists and scientific team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and scientific excellence
  • Maintain clear technical records and prepare summary presentations and reports of ongoing activities for internal and external audiences

Requirements:

  • PhD in biomedical science, biochemistry, biology, or related discipline with at least 6+ years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry in preclinical drug discovery and development
  • Experience with in vitro and in vivo preclinical disease models and developing medium- to-high-throughput assay formats to support drug development
  • Proficient in techniques such as protein and nucleic acid extraction, gene expression analysis, and western blotting
  • Experience with managing and/or conducting studies with CROs and demonstrated expertise in skeletal and/or cardiac muscle biology
  • Experience working with cell-penetrating peptides, nucleic acids, and/or oligonucleotide conjugates in drug discovery and development is a plus
  • Highly motivated scientist with ability to multitask, prioritize work, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to work independently, think strategically, and be self-motivated, with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a matrix environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to efficiently relay information to project teams and senior management
