Research Scientist, Inflammation Discovery Research

The Gastrointestinal and Inflammation (GI2) Drug Discovery Unit at Takeda is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate Scientist to join our biology and cross-functional discovery teams. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for generating and executing preclinical development strategies to support candidate selection, facilitating efficient clinical validation of impactful medicines for patients with inflammatory disorders.
You will apply deep scientific and technical expertise in immunology and/or cell biology to creatively mature innovative novel concepts within our team, in matrixed collaboration with other Takeda scientists, and external partners. Your strong organizational and project management skills, combined with effective written and verbal communication skills, will enable you to drive an inclusive, open, and effective culture in a fast-growing drug discovery group.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate data packages supporting candidate selection and asset characterization based on current in vitro methods, including immortalized cell lines, primary cell cultures, and multicellular or organoid culture models.
- Champion scientific integrity and rigor in preparation and interpretation of detailed protocols/SOPs.
- Independently plan assignments for a research work group or project, troubleshoot complex problems, and change experimental design if necessary.
- Develop and validate new methods to support completion of complex assignments within a project.
- Exercise independent judgment in selecting methods, coordinating efforts, and evaluating criteria for obtaining results.
- Utilize technical literature to implement novel procedures, changes, and improvements within a project.
- Interpret and analyze data, helping to incorporate results into overall scientific projects.
- Maintain a proactive and vocal approach to improving departmental efficiency.
- Summarize and present literature data within the department and occasionally to a broader audience.
Requirements:
- MS in a scientific discipline with 3+ years' experience, or BS with 5+ years' experience.
- Expertise in at least one of the following assay methods: ELISA/MSD, Western blot, qPCR, flow cytometry, ChIP.
- Experience with cell culture, including isolation, culture, and analysis of primary immune cell subsets.
- Direct experience with the principles, models, and pathways of autoimmunity, inflammation, and/or fibrosis.
- Experience developing and/or evaluating small molecule, biologic, and/or nucleic acid therapeutics.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and project management skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with in vivo study design/execution.
- Modern high-dimensional gene expression analysis (i.e., scRNAseq).
- Multicellular culture systems (i.e., organoids).
What We Offer:
Takeda is committed to equitable pay for all employees and strives to be more transparent with our pay practices. We offer a competitive salary range of $96,000 to $151,800, depending on qualifications and experience.
