Job Title: Data Systems Specialist

Join the Tippecanoe School Corporation team as a Data Systems Specialist, responsible for managing student information systems and data management.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will oversee the school corporation's student information system (PowerSchool), manage data integration activities, and provide training to school personnel. They will also facilitate school course scheduling, report cards, and transcripts, as well as support the school corporation's fee program and its integration with the SIS.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the school corporation's student information system (PowerSchool)
  • Manage and execute data integration activities involved with the use of the SIS, including data imports, exports, and API connections
  • Support corporation personnel and external patrons in their use of the SIS
  • Provide SIS-related training to school personnel (administrative, instructional)
  • Facilitate school course scheduling activities, report cards, and transcripts
  • Support the school corporation's fee program and its integration with the SIS
  • Collaborate with other Technology Department staff to assess security and data integrity of the SIS, troubleshoot problems, propose solutions, and plan for future needs
  • Administer reporting to state and federal authorities as mandated by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) that is timely and accurate
  • Lead the school corporation's integration and interaction with various IDOE systems, including the Data Exchange and the LINK Portal
  • Support use of the Ed-Fi data standard to integrate data between disparate systems
  • Monitor data gathering techniques to improve processes regarding state/federal reports
  • Collaborate and coordinate with specific administrators for the purposes of reporting data
  • Extract data upon request for reports and other data analysis
  • Assist with student and staff account creation and access provisioning
  • Represent the school corporation in professional organizations, including the Indiana PowerSchool Users Group (IPSUG) and UNITE

Language Skills:

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Ability to utilize spreadsheet functions such as filtering, sorting, and formulas.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Ability to operate various technological equipment. Use of arms and hands for finger dexterity for operating such equipment. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. such as printers, computers, and monitors. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to withstand long term use of Video Display Terminals is required. The employee is regularly required to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with the public and staff in addition to meeting multiple demands from several people.
