Tankerman - Petroleum and Chemical Transportation Specialist

The Tankerman is a critical role at Buffalo Marine Service, responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned vessels. Key responsibilities include preparing barges for loading and discharging, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and communicating with dock personnel. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Merchant Mariners Document with a Tankerman's endorsement, and the ability to pass certification requirements for benzene handling.
Responsibilities
- Prepare barges for safe and complete loading and discharging of oil, refined, and petrochemical cargoes.
- Ensure all required documents are on board and in proper order.
- Communicate with dock personnel and ensure understanding of product handling and protection.
- Participate in vessel maintenance and training of new employees.
- Handle lines and rigging during tow building, locking, and docking activities.
- Work a rotating six hours on and six hours off watch schedule, with occasional variations not exceeding 16 consecutive hours without rest.
- Adhere to company policies, United States Coast Guard, and environmental regulations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Merchant Mariners Document with Tankerman's endorsement for Grade B liquid cargoes.
- Ability to pass certification requirements for benzene handling.
