In the Risk Management division, the Liability Legal Coordinator plays a pivotal role in various functions, including overseeing and responding to discovery requests in General Liability and Fleet litigation against Publix. The Legal Coordinator will also support the evaluation and management of legal services provided by external counsel, ensuring that Publix receives top-notch legal representation while actively seeking to minimize legal expenditures. Additional projects and developmental opportunities will be available to the coordinator on an as-needed basis. The coordinator may also initiate property damage subrogation claims and represent Publix in small claims court hearings. The General Liability team consists of approximately 80 associates working within the Customer Claims Unit (CCU) and the Represented Claims Unit (RCU). The Liability Legal Coordinator collaborates closely with and reports to the Liability Attorney.

Key Responsibilities Include:

• Receiving, opening, recording, and processing electronic correspondence daily.

• Building and maintaining relationships with various departments within Publix to gather necessary information for defending the company in Liability lawsuits.

• Participating in various claims and legal projects.

Year-End Bonus

As a year-end incentive, Publix provides associates with an additional month's pay (pro-rated in the first year) each year, contingent upon continued employment through the bonus check issuance date. This is calculated as a 13th month of pay in the Potential Annual Pay with Bonus line above.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a litigation paralegal within a corporation, government agency, or law firm, or two years of experience handling general liability claims in a law office, government agency, insurance claims office, or corporate risk management department. Relevant experience may also include personal injury, liability, insurance defense, or premises liability paralegal experience.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word)
    • Various state court systems where Publix operates (FL, GA, AL, SC, NC, VA, TN)
    • Timelines and procedures from service of process to bench trials
    • The operations of attorney's offices and various state entities
  • Skills:
    • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Negotiation and mediation skills
    • Interpersonal skills
  • Ability to:

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in any field.

• Five (5) or more years of experience as a litigation paralegal in a law practice specializing in premises and fleet liability litigation, with experience in civil discovery, corporate and insurance litigation, legal billing, negligence, vehicle and premises liability claims, subrogation, and court procedures.

• Paralegal Certification.

• Familiarity with Publix's policies and procedures, including but not limited to retail operations, warehouse and fleet operations, real estate, loss prevention, and accounting.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office & Excel.

• Knowledge of SAP.
