About Our Organization:

The Michigan Milk Producers Association (MMPA), founded in 1916, is a cooperative owned and operated by dairy farmers, specializing in milk marketing and dairy processing. As the 10th largest dairy cooperative in the United States, MMPA supports dairy farmers across Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana, employing around 625 individuals across four states. Our facilities include a cheese plant and a dairy product plant, along with two SQF Level 3 dairy ingredient plants in Michigan, producing a wide range of dairy products.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable:

  • Inputting and processing vendor invoices and data into the ERP system
  • Compiling payable packets, including invoices, purchase orders, and receiving documents
  • Reviewing all payables for accuracy, including discounts, sales tax, approvals, and GL accounts
  • Maintaining a schedule of invoices and checks to ensure the AP subledger aligns with the General Ledger
  • Preparing payable packets for checks approved for payment and ensuring necessary signatures
  • Mailing checks to vendors and assisting with post-audit processes
  • Reviewing vendor statements and addressing any invoice discrepancies
  • Collecting and reviewing documentation for new vendors

Accounts Receivable:

  • Issuing invoices to customers for daily shipments, ensuring accuracy in quantity and pricing
  • Entering daily cash receipts and applying them to the correct customer invoices
  • Maintaining a schedule of invoices, payments, and write-offs for balancing the AR subledger
  • Opening collection cases and following up on customer payment issues
  • Creating and reporting on aged customer invoices by program and customer

Month-End Responsibilities:

  • Conducting monthly AR & AP close processes, including filing closing reports and preparing journal entries
  • Responding to inquiries from customers, vendors, and staff
  • Maintaining written processes and procedures for AR and AP
  • Performing administrative tasks such as data entry, document preparation, and assisting with audits
  • Executing other AP/AR related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable
  • Associate's degree in accounting, business, or finance is preferred
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft AX or D365
  • Ability to work independently and resolve accounting issues
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for effective communication with colleagues, vendors, and customers
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
