The CEO of the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) serves as the principal executive leader, addressing issues of antisemitism, matters related to Israel, and various domestic policy concerns pertinent to the Jewish community in the Greater Indianapolis area.
This role is pivotal in leading the community relations sector of the organized Jewish community, acting as the primary liaison for engagement with civic leaders, government officials, and representatives from other faith and ethnic groups.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Public and Community Relations in Jewish and General Communities:
Ensure JCRC remains the primary resource for consensus-building and community relations.
Collaborate with diverse groups within the Jewish community to foster consensus that reflects a wide array of viewpoints.
Act as the chief resource and intermediary between the Jewish community and the broader public through coalition-building and cooperative initiatives with leaders from religious, civic, academic, and governmental sectors.
Serve as the principal spokesperson for JCRC.Monitor and analyze local, national, and international developments, briefing JCRC leadership to inform policy decisions and mobilize community responses as necessary.
Maintain open communication channels with media, government representatives, educational institutions, and national organizations.
Design and execute programs aimed at educating both the Jewish community and the general public to proactively address and combat antisemitism.
Lead initiatives for crisis management and prevention regarding antisemitism.Provide support and serve as a first point of contact for families, schools, and organizations following incidents of antisemitism.
Enhance and expand JCRC's Israel-related programming within and outside the Jewish community.Act as a reliable source of information regarding Israel and respond to events related to Israel for public officials, civic leaders, and educators.
Formulate and implement strategies to counter local anti-Israel movements and efforts to delegitimize Israel.Develop and sustain relationships with elected officials across all levels of government.
Oversee domestic public policy advocacy, including coordinating legislative strategies, monitoring relevant ordinances and legislation, testifying before governmental bodies, and issuing action alerts as appropriate.
Administrative DutiesCollaborate with JCRC's Board to establish organizational goals, priority issues, and policy recommendations.
Facilitate engaging meetings to inspire involvement and support for JCRC's initiatives.
Develop and cultivate future volunteer leadership for the organization.
Strategically recruit, develop, and manage a professional team, fostering an environment that attracts and motivates high-quality professionals.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Interests:
Comprehensive understanding of antisemitism (its history and current forms), Israel, the US-Israel relationship, and Israel-Diaspora dynamics.
In-depth knowledge of Jewish history, culture, values, and the American Jewish experience.
Dedication to safeguarding the Jewish community, advocating for civil and human rights, and enhancing services for those in need.
Skills and Experience:Proven ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and effective communication with diverse groups.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; meticulous attention to detail; confident public speaking abilities.
Self-motivated, strategic thinker, highly organized, proficient in time management, and possessing strong interpersonal skills.Able to work independently and collaboratively within teams that include professional colleagues, Jewish community volunteers, and individuals from varied backgrounds.
Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in the complete Microsoft Office suite; adept with social media platforms; capable of working with graphics and design software.
3-5 years of relevant or transferable experience in public policy, government relations, non-profit organizations, Jewish community work, or Israel advocacy.Preference will be given to candidates with established connections to the central Indiana community.
COMPENSATION
Compensation package ranging from $110,000 to $140,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
The JCRC has been the advocacy and intergroup relations arm of the organized Jewish community in Indiana since its inception.
We strive to build consensus within the Jewish community on public affairs issues and translate these positions into actionable initiatives with the broader community, public officials, and other faith and ethnic groups.
Our focus includes Israel advocacy and combating antisemitism, and we collaborate with other organizations advocating for civil rights and social justice for all.
The JCRC maintains relationships with various ethnic and religious groups, serving as the primary point of contact for public interaction between Jewish and non-Jewish communities.
The JCRC operates as an independent non-profit organization, with a Board of Directors comprising representatives from Jewish organizations, agencies, and synagogues throughout central Indiana.
The JCRC is a constituent agency of the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis and a member of the Jewish Council for Public Affairs.
