Job Overview

Vets Hired is seeking a highly skilled Strategic Communications Director to lead our Communications Department. This role is responsible for ensuring the effective communication of our cooperative's goals and objectives to our customer-owners.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to engage our customer-owners and promote our cooperative's mission.
  • Collaborate with the Department Vice President to set goals and measure team performance.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of customer-facing applications, including our website, mobile app, and text message application.
  • Coordinate daily staff activities, programs, and projects in the Communications Department.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction data and develop strategies to address critical issues and topics of interest.
  • Hold monthly communication-planning meetings and oversee the production of internal and external communication efforts.
  • Assist the CEO with the planning, writing, and editing of their monthly letter in the magazine.
  • Write articles for publications, as necessary, and participate in the team review and editing of all internal and external publications.
  • Ensure all communications, internal and external, are consistent with our cooperative's strategic plan.
  • Serve as a media contact and assist in planning and implementing marketing efforts for affiliate companies.
  • Oversee staff activities related to community initiatives, including Youth Tour and Scholarship programs.
  • Coordinate the Annual Meeting, including working with vendors and divisions to ensure a successful meeting.
  • Serve as the point of contact for third-party service providers and applications.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with staff members of state and national trade associations, as well as other electric cooperatives and communication professionals.
  • Assist with monitoring local, state, and national current events and political actions related to our cooperative and its stakeholders.
  • Contribute to achieving departmental goals through active participation in the planning and administration of departmental budget and strategic objectives.
  • Professionally represent and maintain positive communications and productive business relationships through participation in business-related events and activities.
  • Work continually towards self-development to stay current on communications, public relations, and web design procedures and practices.
