Job Title: Lateral Attorney: Criminal Prosecution/Defense Expert

We are seeking an experienced prosecutor to join our team as an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of Special Investigation (OSI) in New York City, Poughkeepsie, or Suffolk County.

Job Summary:

The OSI is responsible for investigating incidents throughout the state in which a police officer or a peace officer has caused the death of a person. If warranted, OSI's attorneys seek charges in connection with the incident and prosecute any resulting indictment.

Responsibilities:
  • Investigate incidents and gather evidence to support prosecution
  • Conduct grand jury investigations and present cases to the grand jury
  • Prosecute complex felony cases, including homicide trials
  • Work with detective investigators and other prosecutors to strengthen public trust in the criminal justice system
Requirements:
  • At least six (6) years of criminal prosecution and/or criminal defense experience, including substantial homicide trial and investigation experience
  • Excellent legal writing and research skills, along with strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and teamwork skills
  • Prior experience investigating complex cases in the grand jury is a plus
  • Prior experience handling cases involving issues of causation, justification, or complex felony prosecutions is preferred
  • Prior experience working with and in diverse communities and doing community outreach is also a plus
