Position Overview

The University of New Mexico College of University Libraries & Learning Sciences (UL&LS) is seeking a part-time student leader to join our team. We are looking for an individual with library experience and proven leadership skills.

Role Responsibilities

The Student Lead will collaborate with library staff and supervisors to:
  • Assist in managing the student workforce by adjusting workflows and assignments to effectively meet user demands and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Exemplify and promote UL Student Employee guidelines and expectations among the student workforce, including dress code, attendance, breaks, and high-quality customer service.
Additionally, the Student Lead may:
  • Support supervisors in evaluating student employee performance.
  • Participate in the recruitment process for new student employees.
  • Engage in regular Student Lead meetings, contributing insights and participating in discussions about student employment within UL branches.
  • Lead or contribute to special projects or ongoing initiatives.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must possess familiarity with library operations and be capable of functioning effectively within a team environment. All student employees may be required to work evenings and/or weekends. All UL&LS student positions are term-based for the current or upcoming academic year. Library student employees must be able to shelve books and perform other physical tasks as necessary. Please include a resume and cover letter with your application.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UNM, maintaining at least half-time enrollment (6 credit hours) for fall and spring semesters, and if participating in Work Study, must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • At least 6 months or 2 semesters of relevant experience at Centennial Library.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current Work Study award.
  • Experience in providing user support in library public service environments.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proven capability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively as both a team member and a leader.
