About the Role

The Senior Controls Engineer will be responsible for interpreting scope and hardware/software design, creating databases, developing graphical user interfaces, and implementing procedures and standards used in controls project design and programming. The Controls Engineer will also assist the installation team with system commissioning and device verification in the field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Configure and program HVAC building automation and control systems (direct digital controls) and create sequence of operations.
  • Develop and test software programs to operate the system.
  • Apply field change information for as-built drawings and software.
  • Perform tasks as required to execute and fully complete assigned projects, including system programming, integration, system and network commissioning, and project closeout.
  • Complete hardware design and software programming using established standards.
  • Manage and complete the loading, device verification, and commissioning of all system controllers as required. Validate complete system functionality and resolve issues with subcontractors and others to ensure proper operation. Provide accurate project as-built and commissioning documentation.
  • Perform site-specific training for owner/operator on the total system in full or with assistance. Ensure owner/operator has been trained. Provide proper documentation and manuals for system operation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering-related field, preferably Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or other similar technical degree.
  • 4+ years of technical, hands-on experience with systems design, commissioning, and programming of digital HVAC controls systems.
  • Proficiency working with Alerton, Tridium, or Siemens required.
  • Mastery of the concepts of HVAC controls in new construction, renovation/retrofit project types, components, and systems with the ability to program and commission pre and post installation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Must be highly organized and possess the ability to work in a high-paced environment with the ability to prioritize tasks to meet the schedules given by leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and autonomously and take ownership of all tasks.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment; working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
