PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer at Masonite will collaborate with essential technical, manufacturing, and business stakeholders to identify, define, coordinate, and execute the development and evaluation of innovative residential door solutions, emphasizing acoustical performance.

This position is accountable for ensuring adherence to all safety and compliance standards.

Additionally, this role involves mentoring and guiding junior scientists, engineers, technicians, and contractors to achieve the objectives of the Masonite Doors division.

The Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer will also represent Masonite in relevant external standards organizations, trade associations, and customer interactions as necessary.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Commitment to Safety

Facilitates and engages in regular safety discussions, ensuring strict compliance with established safety protocols and corporate policies.

Oversees the creation and upkeep of safety documentation and organizational structures for the Masonite Acoustics Laboratory and door prototyping facilities.

Focuses on maintaining a secure work environment for oneself and colleagues.
Product Development Strategy

Formulates and supports the implementation of both short-term and long-term acoustic product development strategies aligned with business objectives.

Utilizes insights gained from testing and experimentation to inform the creation of new products and address complex challenges.

Collaborates with external clients to design and lead testing initiatives, providing analytical results that distinguish Masonite products within the door industry.

Establishes expertise in acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms, leveraging guidance from internal and external mentors.

Laboratory Leadership

Enhances and broadens the knowledge base and product offerings of the residential door acoustic product line to support business growth and strategic initiatives.

Identifies opportunities and delivers testing solutions to facilitate new product introductions and expand the acoustic product portfolio, including configuration assessments and enhancements to in-field performance demonstrations.

Recognizes opportunities to develop testing methodologies that enhance safety, data integrity, or operational efficiency.

Leads efforts to maintain and elevate laboratory quality and process documentation, ensuring high standards of work quality.

Fosters and nurtures key relationships with clients and collaborates with the Masonite Acoustic Research Center.

Ongoing Professional Development

Develops into a recognized expert in acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms, utilizing mentorship from internal and external sources.

Provides leadership in selected consensus standards committees to influence standards affecting Masonite.

Builds cross-functional relationships to uncover growth opportunities in fundamental testing and initiates research in these areas.


JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
2+ years of experience in product research and development, preferably in building materials or related sectors
Experience in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis and mitigation
Demonstrated success in identifying technical opportunities and developing product solutions from concept to market
Willingness to travel up to 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :
Experience in leading teams
4+ years of experience in the NVH field with familiarity in ISO9001, ASTM, and international standards
Strong passion for innovation and problem-solving in acoustics
Familiarity with B&K Pulse software or equivalent tools
