Position: Laboratory Collection - Phlebotomist II

The Phlebotomist II plays a vital role in performing both adult and pediatric blood draws, alongside essential daily responsibilities such as centrifuging, aliquoting, and preparing patient specimens for transportation to the main laboratory. This position requires accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and confirmation of all patient demographic information.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conducts pre-analytical specimen reception, processing, identification verification, and storage.
• Utilizes centrifuge and pneumatic tube systems, operates office equipment, and inputs information and test orders into the laboratory information system.
• Provides training and support to colleagues.
• Performs phlebotomy on inpatient units and assists emergency department staff, with the possibility of drawing outpatient samples during off-hours.
• Oversees supply ordering and inventory management for the work unit.

Essential Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Completion of a vocational phlebotomy program or a minimum of one year of phlebotomy experience is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail are advantageous.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are preferred.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt to varying workloads is essential.

Physical Requirements:

• May involve light lifting (up to 10 lbs.) and transporting supplies.
• Repetitive hand use (e.g., keyboard operation), as well as prolonged periods of sitting, walking, or standing, may be necessary.
