Position Summary:
As a vital member of the healthcare team, the Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous observation of patients' electrocardiographic (ECG) patterns. This role involves recognizing and reporting any arrhythmias to the medical and nursing staff, ensuring accurate documentation in patient records, and performing duties in alignment with the mission of Healthier Mississippi People (HMP).
- Continuously monitors ECG systems and promptly communicates critical information, including patient identification, room assignments, cardiac rhythms, and any life-threatening conditions to the appropriate personnel.
- Utilizes advanced cardiac monitoring equipment, including ECG rhythm displays and computerized dysrhythmia detection systems.
- Maintains detailed logs of patient cardiac monitoring, documenting rhythms at least every 12 hours or with any significant changes.
- Facilitates effective communication during shift changes by providing and receiving reports on essential patient and monitor data.
- Manages patient admissions and discharges from telemetry monitoring, ensuring accurate tracking of patient census.
- Responds to inquiries on the monitor room phone line.
- In emergency situations, maintains coordination with nursing staff and code blue teams.
- Assists in rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia identification, labeling monitor strips to highlight significant clinical events.
- Troubleshoots minor equipment issues, such as printer paper changes and lead wire placements, while monitoring for any transmission failures.
- Ensures an adequate supply of monitoring materials and maintains cleanliness and functionality of monitoring equipment, contacting biomedical engineering for any significant malfunctions.

This position may involve occasional exposure to challenging physical environments, including high noise levels and temperature variations. The role may also require handling potentially hazardous equipment and exposure to biohazardous conditions, necessitating strict adherence to safety protocols. Physical demands include frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, bending, standing, and walking, with occasional climbing and crawling.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:
A High School diploma or GED is required, along with one of the following: one year of experience as a Nursing Assistant, completion of the first semester of an RN or LPN program, or a degree in a health-related field. Certifications: Not applicable.
