Job Description

We are a team of skilled professionals at Blue Origin, a company dedicated to making humanity a multi-planetary species. We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Flight Software Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop application software requirements in coordination with systems engineering and subsystem owners
  • Evaluate, decompose, and create requirements for safety-critical, real-time operating systems
  • Perform trade studies on platform software architecture and implementation
  • Author unit tests, documentation, and participate in code reviews
  • Guide the development and implementation of subsystem applications and fault management for various space vehicle
  • Support the vehicle Fault Management and Autonomy Lead to establish integrated vehicle autonomous behaviors, modes, and states
  • Coordinate the technical activities of the team developing vehicle and subsystem management applications
  • Oversee efforts to integrate application flight software components, create and run unit tests, validate on Hardware-in-the-Loop and simulation environments
  • Support the integrated product manager to identify and track program and technical risk, develop and maintain schedule, resource allocation, and budget
  • Define and implement software development best practices
Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • A breadth of understanding in software development concepts
  • Demonstrated experience in defining and/or verifying low-level software structure, inter process communication, and scheduling
  • Demonstrated software development skills in real-time embedded systems, particularly in C/C++
  • Experience in build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, deployment of software
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary
  • Working knowledge of NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standard
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Desired:
  • Successful Candidates typically have 0 to 10 years of software development experience
  • Experience in full life cycle software development of real-time embedded system, including system design and analysis, requirement capture and development, software implementation and verification, system integration, qualification, and releasing
  • Experience developing safety critical products utilizing NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety-critical software standard
  • Experience with Embedded Linux or equivalent real time operating systems
  • Experience operating integrated hardware-in-the-loop lab environments
  • Experience working on avionics, satellite, or space flight systems
Compensation:

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $123,750-$181,500

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $135,000-$198,000

Compensation range for on site CA applicants is $135,000-$198,000
