POSITION SUMMARY: The Nursing Operations Manager is accountable for the supervision of Inpatient Nursing, Emergency Services, and Case Management. This role requires availability to support various departments as necessary. Responsibilities in Inpatient Nursing and Emergency Services encompass planning, collaboration, and execution of safe and effective patient care, including discharge planning in partnership with interdisciplinary healthcare team members, ensuring superior patient care through the formulation of clinical protocols and pathways. Monitoring patient outcomes and addressing issues as needed is essential. This position is also responsible for the collaboration, development, and execution of safe and effective patient discharge planning. Coordination of patient care is achieved through the development and utilization of clinical protocols and pathways, ensuring that specific patient outcomes are attained and that deviations from established standards are evaluated and addressed as required. The role ensures that appropriate levels of care and admission/discharge criteria are met through the assessment and monitoring of severity of illness and service intensity using established criteria.

  • Works alongside the CAO to assess educational needs and plan programs to address these needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and engages in initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience and improving workflow.
  • Participates in orientation for new employees and ensures nursing staff competencies are completed.
  • Facilitates the delivery of annual mandatory and continuous education for staff, utilizing both internal and external resources in accordance with regulations.
  • Maintains comprehensive employee education and training records.
  • Assists with Quality Improvement initiatives alongside the Quality Improvement Officer.

  • Exhibits the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively complete assigned tasks and fulfills all required educational programs.
  • Delivers safe, accurate, and timely patient care that aligns with Alleghany Health standards and departmental objectives.
  • Facilitates communication within the department.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure exceptional patient care and effective discharge procedures.
  • Assists in managing the flow of non-departmental staff and visitors.
  • Maintains information and computer files as directed by leadership.
  • Contributes to quality improvement data collection efforts.
  • Updates physician preference cards as needed through the scheduling system.
  • Generates and prepares reports for unit leaders or administration as required.
  • Monitors specific patient outcomes across all areas, ensuring excellent care is delivered and addressing issues as necessary.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement initiatives as assigned, including those aimed at reducing readmissions and monitoring meaningful use indicators.
  • Provides coverage in both the Emergency Room and Inpatient areas during staffing shortages.
  • Responsible for preparing staff schedules for both Inpatient and Emergency Room departments.

  • Holds accountability for actions taken, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and departmental guidelines.

Finance:
  • Completes tasks efficiently, minimizing the expenditure of time, materials, and funds while prioritizing service.
  • Works productively during scheduled hours and offers assistance to colleagues when tasks are completed.
  • Communicates surgical data to administration and other relevant parties as needed.
  • Maintains knowledge of Revenue Cycle Processes and both CMS and commercial insurance concepts.

  • Assists with data analysis related to surgical trends.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Qualifications:
  • Education/Experience Requirements: Graduate from an accredited nursing program, with a Bachelor's degree preferred or current enrollment in a program. A minimum of three years of management experience in nursing or at least two years of supervisory experience is preferred. Familiarity with the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act is essential.
  • Licensure/Certification Requirements: Current North Carolina Registered Nurse Licensure. BLS certification is required and must be obtained within three months of hire. ACLS and PALS certifications are required and must be obtained within six months of hire.
