Role Summary:

Under the supervision of the Laboratory Director, the Phlebotomist is responsible for performing administrative tasks within the laboratory and collecting biological specimens for clinical testing. This role ensures that all specimens collected are suitable for precise laboratory analysis while adhering to sanitary protocols to protect both patients and laboratory staff. Confidentiality of patient information is paramount.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage incoming calls and relay messages or direct inquiries to the appropriate personnel.
  • Collect urine specimens utilizing designated laboratory facilities.
  • Conduct fingerstick procedures as necessary.
  • Perform venipuncture for specimen collection when required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized specimen collection area.
  • Keep accurate patient logs as needed.
  • Ensure the phlebotomy area is stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Assist with additional tasks as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completion of high school education.
  • Training or experience in phlebotomy techniques.

Physical Requirements:

This position necessitates a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Frequent walking, sitting, bending, and standing for extended periods are required. The ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds is essential. Visual acuity and normal color perception are also necessary.

Work Environment:

Employees may encounter exposure to infectious diseases, hazardous materials, and other typical conditions found in a clinical setting. Occasional evening or weekend shifts may be required.
