Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to medical inquiries via phone.
- Immediately assess patients as part of the Veterinary Emergency Triage process.
- Collect detailed patient information, including signalment, presenting issues, vital signs, and physical examinations.
- Conduct thorough physical assessments of animals, utilizing diagnostic tools such as ultrasounds, x-rays, blood tests, and biopsies.
- Formulate a diagnosis for each animal's condition and devise a tailored diagnostic and treatment strategy.
- Communicate findings and treatment options directly to pet owners.
- Prepare and present cost estimates for treatments to clients.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation.
- Illustrate the importance of diagnostic tests and treatments by addressing client concerns.
- Prescribe medications in accordance with legal protocols.
- Perform both minor and major emergency surgical procedures.
- Provide guidance to pet owners on post-treatment care and preventive measures.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a DVM, VMD, or equivalent veterinary degree.
- Preferred experience of at least one year in emergency or critical care settings.
- Experience with exotic animals is advantageous, but a willingness to treat them is essential.
- Basic proficiency in computer systems for practice management and electronic medical records.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey information clearly.
- Ability to learn and perform both minor and major emergency surgical procedures.
Work Schedule:
- Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by hospital operations.
- Shifts may include 7a-7p and 7p-7a.
- Potential for swing shifts during peak hours, with flexible scheduling options.
- Approximately 156 shifts annually, typically averaging three shifts per week.
Compensation Package:
- Base salary for DVM: $160,000 plus a 22% production bonus, with total earnings potentially reaching $200,000 to $300,000 annually.
- Comprehensive continuing education support, including coverage for online and in-person training, with an additional $3,500 allocated for travel expenses.
