Job Title: Emergency Department Technician

At Mercy Health, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Department Technician to join our team. As an ED Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the nursing staff in our Emergency Department.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures.
  • Answer call lights in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Document care provided according to standards.
  • Maintain a clean work and patient environment.
  • Maintain and order supplies, including scanning, stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies for MHTC and Mercy North.
  • Process orders in an accurate and timely manner. Answer the telephone and call lights appropriately and provide information or relays messages to patients and staff.
  • Direct visitors to patients' rooms. Maintain medical records of current patients. Process patient charges and orders supplies as needed.
  • Float to various units based on identified needs.
  • Participate in department or unit performance improvement activities.
  • Perform 12 Lead EKG's as directed.
  • Start IV as directed.
  • Perform venipunctures as directed.
  • Assist ED MD's with intubation by gathering needed equipment.
  • Perform CPR and places patient on Lucas during resuscitations.
  • Assist with splint applications by gathering needed supplies.
  • Assist with chest tube and CVP insertions by gathering needed supplies/equipment.
  • Perform BGM's as directed.
  • Transports non-monitored patients to the inpatient units.
Requirements:
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state with 2 years healthcare experience
  • Medical Assistant with 2 years of healthcare experience
  • Licensed as an EMT in applicable state with 2 years of healthcare experience
  • Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state with 1 year of healthcare experience
  • Certification/Licensure
  • Certified as a Nursing Assistant in applicable state
  • Certified as a Medical Assistant in applicable state
  • Licensed as an EMT in applicable state
  • Licensed as a Paramedic in applicable state
  • Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days
Special Physical Demands:

The Special Physical Demands are considered Essential Job Functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell.

The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color, vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
