About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner to join our team at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center. Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a wide range of health care services, including diagnosis and management of acute, chronic, and complex health problems, health promotion, disease prevention, health education, and counseling to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
  • Obtain and evaluate medical histories, perform physical examinations, perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and order laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations.
  • Make arrangements for further care if appropriate and serve as a consultant to other providers.
  • Work collaboratively with all levels of staff, including trainees and a multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced educational and collegial environment.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based nursing protocols and organize educational activities targeted toward staff training and development.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with radiation oncology symptoms and diseases.
  • Collaborate with physician and chemotherapy infusion nurses to schedule and administer chemotherapy.
  • Monitor and adjust patient medications and treatments according to protocols.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies related to the patient's plan of care and response to treatment.
  • Provide patient education and apply accepted preventative health care measures to patients and/or their families.
  • Perform certain minor surgical/therapeutic procedures, including suturing/closure of lacerations, obtaining biopsies, removal or exchange of indwelling drains or tubes, and administration of local and topical anesthesia.
  • Order or prescribe devices, supplies, and durable medical equipment.
Requirements
  • United States Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen.
  • English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
  • Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner from a school of professional nursing.
  • License: Active, current, full and unrestricted APN license to practice as a NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Nurse Practitioner Board Certification: Must possess and maintain full and current board certification as a NP in Adult Nurse Practitioner or Adult Gerontology Primary Care.
