Job Summary

The Inpatient Coder Apprentice role at MaineHealth is a key position responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of inpatient records. This involves assigning ICD diagnostic and procedural codes, abstracting data elements from the EMR, and verifying the accuracy of the records.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assign ICD diagnostic and procedural codes for inpatient records
  • Abstract data elements from the EMR to determine accuracy and completeness of the inpatient record
  • Verify the accuracy of the inpatient record

Requirements

  • Education: Associates Degree in Health Information Management or Bachelors' Degree in Health Information Management or other science-based degree such as nursing
  • License/Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Experience: Three years of experience as an outpatient coder at an acute care or academic teaching facility
