Position Overview: Dialysis Nurse

Grand River Medical Group, a prominent healthcare provider in the Dubuque and tri-state region, is actively looking for a Dialysis Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse to join our dedicated team in the Dialysis Unit.

This full-time role entails working 30-34 hours per week with a schedule of three days per week. Our Dialysis Unit operates on a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday schedule, with patient treatments commencing at 6:00 am. Our multidisciplinary team includes Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Social Workers, Dietitians, and Patient Care Technicians, all collaborating to deliver exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete necessary documentation for unusual occurrences and other relevant situations.
  • Maintain vigilant observation of patients and dialysis equipment during treatments, assessing patient conditions throughout.
  • Administer heparin based on established patient needs and monitor clotting times for dosage adjustments.
  • Conduct regular blood draws for laboratory analysis in accordance with unit protocols.
  • Perform clinical procedures such as needle insertion and central line access, adhering to established standards of care.
  • Accurately document each treatment, including double checks, lab draws, medications administered, patient assessments, vital signs, and treatment summaries.
  • Document monthly on assigned primary patients, including lab results and nursing progress notes, and update care plans as necessary.
  • Utilize nursing expertise to implement preventative, therapeutic, and rehabilitative care for assigned patients and families.
  • Execute delegated nursing functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Review patient records and clinician orders, monitoring for changes in patient conditions.
  • Adhere to the treatment plans established for assigned dialysis patients.

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program for Licensed Practical Nurses or Registered Nurses is required.
  • A minimum of one year of professional nursing experience is preferred, with a background in medical/surgical, hospital, chronic illness, critical care, or community health being advantageous.
  • Dialysis experience is not required, as on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Must hold an active LPN or RN license to practice in the state of Iowa.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
