Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Patient Care Technician to join our team at Baystate Health. As a Patient Care Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the nursing team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care: Provide age-appropriate care to patients, demonstrating knowledge of developmental stages and applying developmental theories and concepts when implementing care.

2. Vital Sign Monitoring: Monitor basic physiological parameters, taking and recording routine vital signs within the specified timeframe. Obtain and document weights, heights, abdominal girths, and head circumference as per physician/nurse order.

3. Treatments and Procedures: Administer treatments and procedures per Baystate Health policy/procedure, changing dressings within one hour of the specified timeframe. Provide post-mortem care as directed by RN.

4. Elimination Support: Assist patients with the elimination of body wastes, making available or offering bedpans, urinals, and emesis basins immediately after patient request. Accurately label and send specimens of urine, feces, and sputum within 30 minutes of the specified time frame.

5. Point of Care Testing: Perform Point of Care (POC) Testing.

6. Ancillary Services: Assist in the delivery of ancillary services as directed, assisting with treatment by following specified treatment plans developed for individual patients.

7. Communication: Communicate effectively with team and patients, interacting with patients in a respectful and informative manner. Clearly communicate information related to patient care to the team.

8. Emergency Procedures: Be knowledgeable of and initiate emergency procedures, responding effectively in emergency situations. Maintain Patient safety at all times.

9. Team Collaboration: Function as a member of the team, assisting team members with clinical activities and providing feedback related to the team process.

10. Competencies and Recognition: Demonstrate competency for one-to-one observation of patients based on department and unit-specific needs. Maintain clinical recognition program for career ladder level.

Requirements:

1. Experience: At least one year of patient care experience (this experience can vary in level of long-term care, specialty, acute care, etc.).

2. Skills and Competencies: Proficient in reading and writing in English, able to maintain professional composure in medium to high-stress situations, and effective communication skills.
