Job Summary

Under the supervision of a physician, the Hospitalist Lead Advanced Practice Professional manages the care of patients through the performance of a wide variety of health care services, including patient care tasks, diagnostic procedures, and therapeutic procedures. This role oversees daily duties of Hospitalist Advanced Practice Professionals, assisting with block scheduling and coordination of daily assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Hospitalist Lead Advanced Practice Professional shall, under appropriate direction and supervision by a physician, augment the physician's data gathering abilities to assist in reaching decisions and instituting care plans for patients. This includes screening patients to determine the need for medical attention, reviewing patient records to determine health status, taking patient histories, recording pertinent patient data, and making decisions regarding data gathering and appropriate management and treatments of patients.
  • The Lead Advanced Practice Professional will work in accordance with the Medical Director, Hospitalist Site Director, Corporate Director of Physician Services, and Nurse Managers to improve the workflow pertaining to APPs and optimize the flow of patients through the hospital system. This includes generating a block schedule, coordinating APP PTO requests and scheduling, facilitating contingencies for unscheduled call-ins, and overseeing daily duties to maintain appropriate rounding on hospital patients.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The employee must possess and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. This includes the ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs, knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients.

Common Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and document all applicable required information. Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker interactions. Comply with the company's attendance policy. Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution. Perform work in a cost-effective manner.
  • Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. Perform related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience

A Post Graduate Diploma or Certificate Program is required. One year of experience in CAMC's hospital medicine program is preferred. A Master's in Nursing may substitute for the Post Graduate Physician Assistant requirement.
