Team Overview: We are in search of a seasoned software engineer with a strong enthusiasm for Search to take a pivotal role in enhancing Turo's search platform. The search function serves as the gateway for Turo, providing a unique opportunity to influence the platform that drives it. Our APIs, internal services, and web applications form the backbone of our innovative software that is transforming mobility.   • Direct the design and architecture of a robust search infrastructure, focusing on scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Identify and prioritize enhancements to existing search systems for improved efficiency, speed, and accuracy.
  • Work closely with cross-functional colleagues on the Turo Search team to establish requirements and convert them into technical specifications.
  • Develop and implement cutting-edge search algorithms to boost search performance and relevance.
  • Ensure comprehensive technical design and documentation.
  • Thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment where creativity and innovative solutions are encouraged.
Your Qualifications:
  • Professional experience with Apache Lucene, ElasticSearch, OpenSearch, Solr, or other search technologies. Hands-on experience is a significant advantage.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Typically a minimum of 10 years of experience delivering high-scale code to production.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language, such as Python, Ruby, Go, or C. Java and/or Kotlin are strong advantages.
  • Strong foundation in computer science principles: data structures, algorithms, database concepts, distributed systems, and search.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support staff, and fellow engineers.
  • Passionate about problem-solving and assisting others in achieving their objectives.

The compensation package for this full-time position includes a competitive salary, equity, and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, reflecting the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position.
