Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Investigator to join our team at NYC Health + Hospitals. As a key member of our revenue cycle team, you will be responsible for conducting thorough investigations to determine patient eligibility for medical assistance programs and ensuring accurate billing and collection of services rendered.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with patients, families, and healthcare providers to gather information and determine patient eligibility for medical assistance programs.
  • Verify and modify demographic and insurance data to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Process patient applications for third-party benefits, including Medicaid and Medicare.
  • Abstract medical charts to obtain pertinent information for coding and billing purposes.
  • Review and correct patient bills and codes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Respond to complex inquiries from patients and third-party payers, resolving disputes and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Follow up on collections to ensure maximization of revenue.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.
  • Completion of an accredited certificate program in medical billing, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of full-time experience in interviewing, investigation, or a related field, such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions.
