Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and cook food according to established recipes and menus
  • Ensure that all food is prepared and served in a safe and sanitary manner
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
  • Supervise and train junior staff members as needed
  • Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen
Requirements
  • 1 year of full-time paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Food Service Worker
  • 1 year of full-time, paid or volunteer cooking experience in a commercial or institutional kitchen
  • Education or training from an accredited college, training school, business school or occupational training program that is directly related to the cooking and/or food service program knowledge and abilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a commercial restaurant or industrial kitchen
  • Lead worker experience performing duties such as leading the work of staff, distributing and/or assigning work to employees, monitoring work for progress and/or quality, providing training and/or mentoring to staff, recommending improvements and modifications to work processes and procedures, resolving employee concerns, providing input to supervisor on employee performance and informing supervisor of conduct problems, responding to and coordinating with supervisor to resolve routine customer inquiries and complaints, assisting, guiding, and instructing group members in the performance of their duties, and providing technical direction and problem solving in response to staff work questions and problems
Working Conditions
  • Work in a mental health treatment center, jail, or youth detention facility
  • Work in an area that may not have heating or air conditioning
  • Work with inmates or interact with mental health patients
Selection Process

The selection process for this position will include a Supplemental Questionnaire and a Formula Rate Examination. The Supplemental Questionnaire will be used to determine your exam score, and the Formula Rate Examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of your education, training and experience.
