Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Part-time Assistant I in the Library. The successful candidate will provide exceptional service to students, faculty, and community patrons, ensuring a positive and productive experience in our library facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly and efficient customer service to library patrons, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist patrons in locating library materials, shelving books and periodicals, and managing study rooms.
  • Circulate library materials, maintain patron records, and enforce library policies and procedures.
  • Process student IDs, specialty badges, and employee access cards, using ID Credentials software.
  • Retrieve and process system intra-library hold requests, receive and process incoming bins for shelving and hold requests, and route interlibrary loan requests.
  • Collect and record fines and fees, update system records, and document day-end balances.
  • Answer telephones, provide routine information, and refer calls as needed.
  • Assist with the maintenance and organization of the Circulation department, including ordering forms and supplies, covering new books, and repairing non-print cases and materials.
  • Participate in the preparation of book displays, withdrawing library materials, inventory, and other special projects as needed.
  • Provide customer service assistance to library visitors, serving as a point of contact for the library in person, by phone, and via email.
  • Use integrated library system software to perform circulation services, including checkout and renewal of materials, maintaining patron records, processing requests and holds, and other general circulation services.
  • Enforce circulation policies and procedures for students, faculty, and the public, and participate in the development of documentation for Circulation Desk procedures.
  • Secure the library and perform closing duties, including ensuring all patrons have exited, locking side doors and the main entrance, and turning off computers and equipment.
  • Assist library patrons in the use of computers, copy machines, and other technology, and provide back-up support to the Learning Center as needed.
  • Retrieve, sort, and distribute mail and courier deliveries, maintain supplies and forms, straighten materials and equipment, and record daily activity statistics.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service and a positive attitude.
  • Basic knowledge of office software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
