About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Directional Drill Operator to join our team at Telcom Construction, LLC. As a key member of our construction crew, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating drill equipment and other trenching or digging equipment to install and maintain underground telecommunications cabling service lines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate drill equipment and other trenching or digging equipment, including plows, backhoes, rock saws, dozers, and tractor trailers.
  • Install and maintain underground fiber optic and other telecommunications cabling service lines.
  • Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the jobsite.
  • Develop and maintain an appropriate bore schedule.
  • Dig pits, trenches, and potholes as directed by job plan, including when crossing utilities.
  • Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers.
  • Participate in new site Job Task Safety Analysis (JTSA) prior to starting construction.
Requirements
  • Must be experienced with Directional Drill equipment and understand their capabilities and limitations.
  • Experience with drill set up and design processes.
  • Ability to follow instructions and use small tools/hand tools.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders, safety rules, and operating instructions.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; Unrestricted Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement strongly preferred.
  • Must have good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be very safety conscientious and able to effectively communicate with crew, customers, and vendors.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous utility construction experience.
  • Ability to proficiently use locators to safely identify utilities.
  • Ability to read prints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities.
Physical Requirements
  • Climb into and out of equipment (trucks, cars, backhoes, trenchers, etc.).
  • Lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 LBS as needed with or without assistance.
  • Stand, crouch, sit, bend, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms to spaces both high and low.
  • Work while wearing safety boots, safety glasses, and hardhat.
