The Ohio Department of Commerce is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our facilities and equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- Assist in the installation and replacement of lighting fixtures, light bulbs, ballast, switches, receptacles, and fuses.
- Perform minor repair and installation of plumbing fixtures, including sewer lines, toilets, valves, sinks, radiators, and pipes.
- Assist higher-level workers in the performance of advanced maintenance tasks, including the operation and maintenance of low-pressure boilers.
- Clean and repair boilers and related equipment, including feed water pumps, oil pumps, electric motors, turbines, air compressors, water regulators, gearboxes, fans, and water softeners.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on HVAC and mechanical room equipment, including changing belts, fluids, filters, and lubricating equipment.
- Perform and/or assist others in performing maintenance and/or building repairs, including erecting walls, plastering, pouring and finishing concrete, installing and finishing drywall surfaces, setting up and dismantling display exhibits.
- Perform support duties in the shop, including cleaning and oiling tools and/or shop machinery, sweeping floors, stocking supplies, and taking inventory.
- Install, rekey, and program locks and electronic door-entry systems.
- Operate personal computers to verify data and/or to produce and/or maintain work records.
- Complete written work orders.
- Independently make decisions on how to efficiently perform assigned basic repairs, preventative maintenance, and installations.
- Meet with agency personnel to gather information on maintenance problems.
- Inform other state workers of maintenance plans.
- Advise agency personnel on the prevention of maintenance breakdowns.
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance in a timely manner.
- Successful completion of post-secondary training in facilities maintenance technology, industrial trades technology, or a comparable training program.
- At least 1 year of experience in construction/building maintenance that included carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
- Valid commercial driver's license if required to operate motorized equipment regulated by Sections 4506.1 and 4506.2 of the Ohio Revised Code.
- Knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Safety practices (i.e., OSHA/PERRP).
- Skill in carpentry, electrical/electronics, plumbing, and mechanical trades.
- Use of hand/power tools associated with carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical trades.
- Operation of personal computers.
This position is assigned as an 07 of the State of Ohio's E1 pay schedule. The salary range provides a standardized pathway for salary increases. With continued employment and satisfactory performance, new hires advance to the next step of pay range after 6 months and annually thereafter.
