Job Overview

As a Machine Shop Operator, you will be responsible for operating, setting up, and adjusting various NC/CNC lathes and/or machining centers to produce parts to the required tolerances. You will work closely with a Machinist or Lead person to ensure the quality of the parts being produced. This role offers the opportunity to acquire the skills necessary to advance to the Machinist classification.

A Day In The Life
  1. Read and understand blueprints to produce parts within required tolerances.
  2. Perform first-piece inspection and subsequent inspections to ensure overall quality.
  3. Take care of routine maintenance and keep the work area clean and neat.
  4. Follow all safety rules regarding machine operation and proper guarding.
  5. Maintain simple reports on productivity, quality, and safety.
What will help you thrive in this role?
  1. Possess and use micrometers and dial calipers to ensure part quality.
  2. Physical ability to perform work requiring frequent standing and bending, as well as lifting up to 30 lbs.
  3. Sufficient reading and writing ability to follow work order instructions and prepare simple production reports.
  4. Sufficient visual acuity to read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts.
  5. Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment properly.
