Position Summary:
The Metal Fabrication Machine Operator is responsible for executing a range of machine operations using numerical control machining centers to accurately cut, shape, or form metal components according to specified requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze setup sheets and specifications to determine machining sequences and dimensions of the final product.
• Securely attach fixtures to the machine bed and position workpieces as per setup instructions, utilizing a forklift when necessary.
• Select and modify roll or basket thickness as required.
• Operate controls and input commands to index the welding tool to designated set points and initiate machine operations.
• Monitor machine performance to identify malfunctions, such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
• Replace machine consumables and adjust workpiece locations during the machining process as directed by setup instructions.
• Measure workpieces to ensure compliance with specifications and organize them in designated storage areas.
• Adjust machine feed and speed in response to programming errors or machine issues.
• Maintain cleanliness of the machine, tools, parts, and surrounding workspace as necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or GED; or six months to one year of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment:
• The role is situated in a production setting where interruptions may occur frequently.
• The noise level is typically moderate.
• Flexibility to work day or night shifts, including occasional overtime and weekend shifts.
Physical Requirements:
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision. Regular tasks include standing, using hands for grasping, reaching, and talking or hearing. Frequent walking and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling are also required.
Core Competencies:
• Reliable attendance record.
• Adaptability to changing daily routines.
• Basic math and measurement skills, including addition, subtraction, decimals, and tape measure usage.
• Ability to comprehend machine-related terminology and standard operating procedures.
• Capacity to follow multi-step instructions with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced operators and technicians.
• Basic computer skills for navigating software and inputting data.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in manufacturing, metalworking, or welding is advantageous.
• Familiarity with intermediate math concepts such as radius, diameter, and metric to imperial conversions.
• Openness to constructive feedback for skill enhancement.
• Ability to identify maintenance needs and communicate issues effectively to technical staff.
