Lead Surgical Veterinary Technician

Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospitals (TVRH) is seeking a dedicated and skilled Lead Surgical Veterinary Technician to guide and enhance our surgical team. Position Summary

The Lead Surgical Veterinary Technician plays a crucial role in managing the surgical support team and ensuring the highest standards of patient care. This position involves overseeing recruitment, performance evaluations, scheduling, and training of team members. The Lead Technician will facilitate effective workflow and provide the necessary guidance and motivation to the surgical team.

Key Responsibilities

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with management to align on staff management goals and objectives.
  • Consulting on patient processing protocols related to the surgical team.
  • Supervising the surgical support team on the treatment floor, ensuring compassionate and effective leadership.
  • Managing the surgical workflow to meet patient care requirements.
  • Addressing immediate concerns regarding patient care or team workflow.
Administrative Duties

Responsibilities may include:

  • Maintaining the surgical support staff schedule and on-call rotations.
  • Ensuring quality patient care by developing and enforcing hospital standards.
  • Monitoring team performance to uphold high standards of care.
  • Updating and implementing policies and procedures for surgical protocols.
  • Conducting regular team meetings to discuss departmental goals and performance.
Human Resources Management

Key HR functions include:

  • Conducting interviews and developing evaluation criteria for candidates.
  • Assisting in performance reviews and developing training protocols for new and existing staff.
  • Addressing disciplinary and performance issues with HR support.
Professional Expectations

All team members are expected to:

  • Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to dress code.
  • Complete continuing education requirements to uphold professional credentials.
  • Represent the hospital positively in all interactions.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology.
  • Current RVT certification in NC.
  • Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a veterinary technician in a surgical or anesthesia setting.

Preferred:

  • VTS certification in Anesthesia.
