Position Overview

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is tasked with delivering nursing interventions and educational support aimed at enhancing patient comfort and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. This role requires flexibility to work both day and night shifts.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid LPN licensure in Florida or a current license from another state with a temporary Florida permit.
  • Current BLS certification for healthcare providers from the American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • At least one year of nursing experience in an inpatient, hospice, or home health environment.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and automobile insurance in accordance with company policy.
  • Reliable transportation to fulfill visit schedules.
  • Completion of a 30-hour Infusion Therapy Course and an 8-hour in-house Infusion Class is preferred.
  • Proficient in English, both written and verbal.
  • Availability to accommodate patient needs with a flexible schedule.
  • Capability to operate equipment that requires visual and auditory skills.
  • Ability to manage the emotional challenges associated with caring for terminally ill patients and their families.
  • Physical ability to perform essential job functions, including lifting patients and equipment, bending, and kneeling, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing tasks to patients and families under RN supervision, including Continuous Care, dressing changes, and catheter changes as outlined in the care plan developed by the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG).
  • Exhibit clinical skills in accordance with company policies and procedures, including medication administration and symptom management.
  • Monitor patients for changes in body systems, pain, and symptoms, and report findings to the RN.
  • Report adverse reactions and responses to treatments to the RN.
  • Communicate findings to physicians, APRNs, and physician assistants after collaborating with the RN.
  • Perform venipuncture for blood specimens.
  • Conduct Central Venous Line (CVL) site inspections, manage venous access device dressing changes, and administer IV medications and fluids as per established procedures.
  • Document all actions in accordance with policy and procedure in the medical record.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

The following abilities are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodation: ability to see, hear, talk, walk, and use hands for handling tasks. Frequent requirements include standing, sitting, reaching, bending, and balancing. Occasional requirements may involve lifting, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and climbing stairs.
