Your Role:

We are seeking a seasonal Ecological Specialist to support environmental assessments for various sectors, including transportation and renewable energy, focusing on bat conservation efforts across the eastern United States. This role is designed for individuals who are enthusiastic about ecological research and fieldwork.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct mist net surveys for bat populations;
  • Perform vegetation assessments relevant to bat habitats;
  • Carry out aquatic evaluations related to bat survey sites;
  • Review background data for ecological studies;
  • Assist in the preparation of environmental permit applications;
  • Review records concerning endangered species;
  • Collect GPS data and provide mapping assistance;
  • Utilize ArcGIS for mapping and data collection;
  • Organize, manage, and analyze collected data;
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports, tables, and maps for client and regulatory review.
Qualifications:

Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Preferred possession of a USFWS Collecting Permit for Listed Bats.
  • Pre-exposure rabies vaccination is mandatory.
  • A strong interest in ecosystems and natural resource conservation is essential.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to solve problems while ensuring safety.
  • Maintain a positive attitude in diverse working conditions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly with MS Office.
  • Strong attention to detail and effective note-taking abilities.
  • Experience working collaboratively in teams as well as independently.
  • Understanding of HSSE policies and procedures, including client-specific training.
  • Familiarity with field sampling techniques is beneficial.
  • Willingness to learn new skills during fieldwork is crucial.
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined work ethic.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships within the team.
  • A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
  • Willingness to travel for fieldwork in remote areas, including overnight stays, is expected.
  • Physical capability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Education:

The ideal candidate will hold a Bachelor's degree in an environmental science discipline such as biology, ecology, or natural resources, with practical experience in biological surveys. Familiarity with radio telemetry and roost emergence counts is advantageous. Proficiency in using computers and GPS technology is necessary, along with strong technical writing skills.

This position may involve a combination of office work and field activities, with exposure to various weather conditions.
