GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The successful candidate will exhibit exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and effective communication abilities to foster a productive laboratory atmosphere. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs, and internal lab systems is essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and process tissue samples for standard microscopic examination.
- Perform embedding and microtomy procedures.
- Conduct slide staining and coverslipping tasks.
- Exhibit knowledge of quality assurance and compliance protocols.
- Address laboratory challenges, including processor malfunctions, stain optimization, microtome adjustments, and coverslipper upkeep.
- Manage supply inventory effectively.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Completion of a Histology Technician program accredited by NAACLS or a minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.
An Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or a Bachelor of Science with at least 24 combined credits in chemistry and biology, as per CLIA Guidelines for high complexity testing personnel, is required. Verification of college transcripts is mandatory.
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of one year of experience in a histology laboratory, specifically in embedding and microtomy, is required.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
HT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP), or eligibility for certification is preferred.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Comprehensive understanding of grossing and histology laboratory techniques.
• Detail-oriented with the capability to accurately organize slides or cassettes.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• In-depth knowledge of microtomy and embedding methodologies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and maintain a positive demeanor, even under pressure.
• Highly organized with a keen focus on detail.
• Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Adhere to all HIPAA, CLIA, and OSHA regulations and standards.
• Maintain current training certifications, including HIPAA and Bloodborne Pathogens.
• Ensure licensing remains up to date, if applicable.
• Conduct routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and document actions appropriately.
• Follow established protocols for the disposal of laboratory waste.
