Job Overview:
The Infection Prevention Nurse plays a crucial role in managing the Infection Control Program. This position involves the systematic collection and evaluation of data in partnership with the healthcare team to deliver therapeutic, evidence-based care. The Infection Prevention Nurse collaborates with the team to formulate care plans and documents progress towards achieving established outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess the effectiveness and needs of the infection control program.
- Develop and plan services while organizing and coordinating their implementation.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of programs and services.
- Apply knowledge of epidemiology and public health practices to establish effective procedures and policies aimed at preventing disease transmission among residents and staff.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Preferred education includes a four-year degree with at least one year of experience in healthcare or long-term care, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- A current, unencumbered RN or LPN license in the state(s) of practice is required.
- Availability to work scheduled hours, including some weekends.
- Completion of an approved Infection Preventionist course is necessary within 30 days of employment.
- Knowledge of short-term practices and familiarity with laws and regulations related to long-term care is preferred.
- Current CPR certification or ability to obtain it within 90 days of employment is required.
- Strong understanding of nursing and medical practices and procedures is necessary.
- Ability to make independent decisions when necessary.
- Leadership and supervisory skills to foster a positive working environment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to move throughout the workday.
- Capacity to manage the mental and emotional demands of the role.
- Good general health and emotional stability are essential.
- Ability to relate well to individuals in various states of health and emotional well-being.
- Compliance with facility health testing requirements is necessary.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure adherence to all infection control procedures as per established policies.
- Collaborate with all disciplines within the facility.
- Maintain an accurate and updated infection log.
- Oversee the Antibiotic Stewardship Program.
- Conduct daily observations of infection control processes across departments.
- Educate staff on infection control practices and assist with competency evaluations.
- Participate in various meetings and maintain a cooperative relationship with facility staff.
