Job Summary

Froedtert South is seeking a highly skilled Patient Access Specialist to serve as the first point of contact for our patients. This role is accountable for appointment scheduling, patient check-in and check-out, registration, coverage management, patient portal sign-up, patient message collection and routing, departmental support, prior authorization and WQ management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Scheduling and Registration
    • Schedule, reschedule, and cancel patient appointments with accuracy and efficiency.
    • Execute pre-arrival registration by adhering to registration standards.
  • Patient Check-in and Check-out
    • Accurately identify and enter patient's insurance coverage.
    • Perform check-in/check-out functions for patient appointments.
  • Financial Management
    • Collect all applicable copays, patient balances, pre-payments, and self-pay payments for services.
  • Communication and Support
    • Manage and resolve assigned departmental WQs.
    • Take messages (telephone and in-person) and use the healthcare software in-basket to route and facilitate communication between patients and clinical care team.
  • Administrative Tasks
    • Perform manages care referrals and prior-authorizations functions.
    • Proficient use of healthcare software utilizing established standards.
Requirements
  • Education
    • High School or GED.
  • Experience
    • 6 months - 1 year of experience in a healthcare business or receptionist environment.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Excellent computer and customer services skills.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology; ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes and use.
    • Familiarity with internet, email, and Microsoft Office.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal Education
    • Formal education beyond high school in Business or Healthcare or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience
    • Experience in patient registration, insurance verification, and health insurance plans.
