Job Summary

Sun Gro Horticulture is a leading horticultural company seeking a skilled Plant Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a production plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the production of high-quality products, managing personnel, and achieving optimal profitability for the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clear guidance to the workforce on safety and productivity.
  • Develop and implement short- and long-range operating strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Train employees on the importance of profitability and develop their skills to contribute to the company's success.
  • Establish and control plant-operating budgets and formulate manufacturing policies to maintain and improve the company's competitive position.
  • Direct and coordinate various program essentials, including training, safety, cost reductions, and security.
  • Ensure production meets quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Understand sales forecasts and convert them into production plans to ensure excellent customer service.
  • Manage workforce utilization and work with lead operators and supervisors to develop staff.
  • Take corrective action as needed and ensure compliance with current federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Recommend and implement approved capital projects and changes in the workplace.
  • Manage inventories and collaborate with Sales, Supply Chain, and Finance on business decisions.
  • Provide reports, analyze reports, and perform administrative work associated with the plant.
Requirements

  • Understanding of Supply Chain function and interaction with other departments.
  • Strong coaching skills, including assessing talent, making tough calls, and working with employees on development.
  • Ability to provide direction, set clear objectives, and develop KPIs to monitor work.
  • Motivates others to excel by creating a work environment that allows people to do their best.
  • Fosters teamwork by valuing all employee contributions and involving the team in decisions that affect them.
  • Strong business process orientation, ensuring strategic process alignment across functions consistent with corporate strategies and goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, and email.
Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in management or equivalent business experience. Similar degree and experience may be substituted. 7-10 years of plant management experience, with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
