Job Summary

The Medical Dosimetrist will play a critical role in delivering exceptional clinical services at Henry Ford's dynamic satellite campus in Brownstown. This state-of-the-art facility houses both Radiation and Medical Oncology, fostering a collaborative environment.

As a key member of the radiation oncology team, you will work closely with a skilled dosimetrist and a dedicated team to provide high-quality patient care. You will also join Henry Ford's expansive Radiation Oncology department, which spans multiple campuses across southeast Michigan, offering unparalleled opportunities for career growth and professional support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Derive computerized treatment plans and communicate technical aspects to the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval and the Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
  • Perform routine duties independently, consulting with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required.
  • Operate and perform quality assurance on the treatment planning computer under the direction of the Medical Physicist.
  • Have working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
  • Interpret and execute treatment plans as defined in relevant treatment protocols.
  • Possess mathematical skills, including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus, to facilitate the treatment planning process.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a formally organized hospital or college-affiliated medical dosimetry program with clinical and classroom curriculum, and other training and/or experience as a medical dosimetrist so that the total duration of study, training, and experience is at least 18 months.
  • Or, possess a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences degree with a major in the physical or biological sciences or be a registered radiation therapy technologist.
  • Together with either of these credentials, demonstrate completion of two or more years of on-the-job training and work experience in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist.
  • Or, possess an Associate of Science, a Bachelor of Arts, or a Bachelor of Science degree in a field other than those of the physical or biological sciences.
  • Together with this degree, demonstrate completion of on-the-job training in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist and have a subsequent period of supervised work experience in medical dosimetry of a minimum of four years.
