Job Responsibilities:
The role involves supervisory and skilled mechanical tasks in managing a workshop that provides repair and maintenance services for vehicles, trucks, and heavy construction machinery.

- Assist in planning, coordinating, and overseeing the operations within a fleet maintenance mechanical repair facility.
- Assign general and specific tasks to mechanics and assistants engaged in the upkeep, overhaul, and repair of automotive and heavy diesel construction equipment (e.g., tractors, bulldozers, graders, etc.).
- Supervise and evaluate the work of mechanics and assistants assigned to repair and maintenance tasks.
- Conduct inspections, testing, and road checks of equipment to identify defects and failures.
- Diagnose vehicle issues and recommend maintenance solutions for complex repair challenges.
- Determine the most effective methods for repairing or maintaining equipment as needed.
- Perform duties of mechanics and other shop personnel as required, including electronic diagnostics, tire repair, and welding.
- Oversee and authorize requisitions for repair parts, lubricants, supplies, and equipment utilized in maintenance operations.
- Prepare and approve documentation of work performed, both in progress and completed, including reports on repair activities and associated costs.
- Inspect tools and equipment for proper condition and usage.
- Conduct performance evaluations, commendations, and disciplinary actions for employees under supervision.
- Engage directly with customers and vendors regarding service issues, vehicle specifications, and improvements.
- Handle related supervisory tasks and complete necessary forms and reports.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Familiarity with methods, practices, materials, and tools used in the heavy equipment maintenance/service industry.
- Understanding of the operational and repair characteristics of various equipment.
- Knowledge of internal combustion gasoline and diesel engine operations and repairs.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic instruments and tools for testing and repairing heavy equipment.
- Awareness of safety precautions in the automotive service industry and ability to enforce safe work practices.
- Ability to instruct and supervise skilled mechanics and other shop personnel.
- Capability to diagnose maintenance defects in heavy equipment.
- Competence in performing road tests and evaluating repair effectiveness.
- Physical ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds and perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong customer service orientation and commitment to minimizing vehicle downtime.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited high school or trade school, or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma, with at least ten (10) years of experience in heavy equipment/diesel maintenance and repair, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- A comparable amount of related training and experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications, excluding required licensure.

Special Requirements:
- Must maintain a complete inventory of tools common to the automotive service trade on-site.
- Possession of a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License is required within six months of employment; Class A Commercial Driver's License is preferred.
- This position may require reporting for work during declared emergencies.
