Position Overview

The Laboratory Services Coordinator is a seasoned Registered Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist who aids the Supervisor or Manager in the daily management and leadership of laboratory staff. Role Details:

The Laboratory Services Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the department Supervisor or Manager and the clinical laboratory team. Responsibilities include conducting check-ins, assisting with budget oversight, investigating incident reports, and facilitating corrective actions. This position also involves assessing and enhancing efficiency and cost-reduction strategies within the laboratory.

Additional responsibilities may encompass:

  • Formulating laboratory processes to aid staff in achieving their goals
  • Participating in leadership training programs
  • Gaining insights into laboratory budgeting and operations
  • Refining policies and procedures
  • Training and mentoring students and team members
  • Acting as interim Supervisor or Manager when necessary
  • Leading or participating in system Work Groups
  • Managing proficiency testing and personnel records

This role requires maintaining bench proficiency and may necessitate working various shifts, including weekends and holidays, and being available for on-call duties. Candidates should possess strong organizational skills and the ability to navigate numerous technical processes with precision. Team collaboration and maintaining a clean, safe work environment are essential.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field from an accredited institution
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Proficiency with laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Familiarity with laboratory regulatory standards
  • Experience in drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and other documentation
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading, training, and educating staff
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience in developing and implementing departmental initiatives

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate verbally with others
  • Proficient in operating computers and laboratory equipment
  • Visual acuity to read lab equipment and documents
  • Capability to remain seated or standing for extended periods
