The College of DuPage is seeking a highly skilled Financial Aid Compliance Officer to join our team. As a key member of the Student Financial Assistance department, this role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures related to financial aid.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate and complete financial aid data analysis activities, assessments, and reporting requirements to ensure quality assurance and compliance with financial aid regulations.
- Collaborate with the leadership team to ensure all federal, state, and institutional policies and procedures are accurate and current.
- Serve as a lead researcher for suspected cases of financial aid fraud and ensure institutional policies and procedures are in compliance with federal and state guidelines and regulations.
- Review regulations associated with federal and state aid to determine potential and/or required changes to current administrative processes.
- Develop and implement federal, state, and institutional compliance policies within the Student Financial Aid Office.
- Analyze college guidelines and practices to mitigate the risk of financial aid fraud and ensure new or proposed changes do not have a negative impact on the college's ability to administer and process federal and state aid programs.
- Manage financial aid fraud prevention activities and convene the fraud task force.
- Lead investigations for students suspected of financial aid fraud and resolve problems that require in-depth investigation and/or research.
- Report cases of financial aid fraud and serve as a primary point of contact to the Office of Inspector General.
- Audit student eligibility for federal and state aid programs, including information provided on federal and state aid applications, academic progress, and standing.
- Serve as a member of the Student Financial Assistance Leadership Team and Student Affairs Council meetings.
- Train the SFA team on policies and procedures and present on new policies and regulatory changes.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, Higher Education Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in a Financial Aid Department.
- Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have major implications on the management and operations within a department.
- Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations.
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Department of Education financial aid theories, concepts, and practices.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with demonstrated attention to detail, time-management skills.
- Ability to be creative and exercise initiative, adjust to changing priorities, and respond appropriately to deadlines.
- Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes.
- Demonstrated basic Project Management skills.
- Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity.
- Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance workflow and quality.
- This position requires a background check and drug screening at the College's expense.
- Must not be in default on federal student loans to have authorization to access Federal Student Aid databases.
